Description:IRON IN THE BLOOD
The goal of our project was simply to have fun, and showcase the transformation of scrap into decorative elements using heat and hammer - a 100lb power hammer to be exact! After all, we are a team of blacksmiths.
The creativity and collaboration this year was truly exciting. The team knew going into collection day that we wanted to do a kinetic piece. We also wanted to utilize solid steel that we could form into something artistic, though designs would be determined after we found such pieces.
Success. We present: Evil Bunny's Lair
The spark for this piece was the aluminum letter 'R', lying on the floor inverted to resemble bunny ears. From there the ideas flowed (beauty from trash piles) and changed (Easter Bunny-ish)…and took a darker tone (Evil Bunny lair). His abode is an eclectic mix of wind-powered technology, and natural briars to protect him from predators. It is a display of contrasts; bright vs. dark, smooth vs. rough, organic vs. geometric, static vs. kinetic, cuddly vs. dangerous. It's this dichotomy, and our attention to detail, that makes this piece so visually engaging.
Who doesn't love a bunny… an evil bunny?!
Height: 10 ft. Width: 4 ft. Depth: 5 ft.
